Depending on what you’d like to experience, here are some tips to help you decide when is the best time to visit:
- June to October (Dry Season):
- Best for wildlife safaris—animals gather around rivers and waterholes, making them easy to spot.
- Great time to witness the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti (especially June–July for the river crossing to Maasai Mara).
- Clear skies and pleasant temperatures, though it’s peak tourist season you will experience higher prices and more crowds at many tourist spots.
- November to March (Green Season):
- Landscapes are lush and beautiful, with fewer tourists and lower rates.
- Best for birdwatching—migratory species arrive in huge numbers.
- Calving season for wildebeest in the Serengeti (January–March), which also attracts predators.
- April to May (Long Rains):
- Least crowded and most affordable, but some lodges/camps may close due to heavy rains.
- Parks are still open and scenery is stunningly green, but roads can be muddy.
If your focus is safaris and wildlife, the dry season (June–October) is best.
If you prefer fewer crowds, lower prices, and dramatic landscapes, the green season (Nov–March) is a hidden gem.
